Revision Numbering Sequence

When we are adding alphabetic revisions to our sheets in Revit it can get a little confusing using letters like ‘I’ and ‘O’ as they look like numbers one and zero. We have the ability to adjust our revision sequence to skip these letters.

Under the manage Ribbon, go to Additional Settings ►Sheet Issues/Revisions 

This will bring up the Sequence Options Dialogue box, where you can take out letters that you don’t want to show.

Placing Views on Sheets FAST!!!

When you are adding views to sheets, it can take Revit a long time to regenerate the views once they have been placed. Multiply this for an entire project and adding views to sheets can be a very time consuming process.

If you are going to be creating a few sheets, try closing all the Worksets and then add the views. With nothing visible in the views this will dramatically speed up the process. 

If you are using the Grids or Levels to line up the views on the sheets, then you can have the ‘Shared Levels and Grids’ Workset open.

Applying View Templates

There are a couple of ways to utilise a View Template….

Setting up View Templates in your project is a great way of keeping views looking uniform and being able to adjust them all in one dialog box. (Everybody should be fairly familiar with this method of applying View Templates.)

It is as easy as clicking in the Properties of a View and selecting a view template parameter and applying a view template from the list. This will keep the view locked to the view template.

To create a view that utilises a view templates settings without being locked to a specific view template, you can right click on the view in your project browser and ‘Apply Template Properties’. This will apply a current snapshot of View Templates Properties without locking the view to any further View Template changes. This great for working views, where you don’t want them locked down. This can also be accessed from the View Ribbon ►View Templates.

If you want a View to Be locked to a View Template then apply a View Template in the View Properties.

If you want a View to utilise a View Templates settings but remain Independent then apply a View Templates Properties.

The Choice is yours!

Schedules Including Linked Information

When you are using linked project files you may have a Main Project file that you are producing all of your documentation with other Project files linked in. This can throw up a few challenges.

One of the challenges is producing a schedule and capturing all of the linked information.

There is a tick box at the bottom of the Schedule dialog box that allows you to include elements in linked files.

In the example below, there are 3 windows in the Main Project file and 3 windows in the linked file.

Keynote Error Message

Keynote files are a fantastic way to annotate our drawings but they can through up a couple of challenges, one error message that can be avoided is shown below. (Unfortunately the Warning message is very vague and doesn’t offer up any clues!)

Although this warning can be ignored, it is best to try and work out what the error means, and try and solve it. This error is due to converting an excel file to the Keynote text file. In the excel file if you have an entire empty row, it will convert this into a blank Keynote value and Keynote text, thus producing an error on loading.

To fix this error all you need to do is delete the entire blank row in the excel schedule, and resave your Keynote .txt file.
